There was no room for advancement beyond my position.

That is the vision that is told to attract talent but Varsity Tutors was always about streamlining the process. Less than two months after my start date I was directed to figure out how to reduce the workload and see how many people we really need.

I had PTO reserved but when I returned from leave my direct supervisor always questioned why I was gone and what I was doing even after I asked for things to remain professional.

I was called other Black female manager’s names on 10+ occasions during Google Meet meetings where our names were present on the screen. There were no attempts to correct this behavior or acknowledge that it was insulting. My direct supervisor did this multiple times to each of us. During my termination meeting he deflected by saying he does this to everyone instead of taking responsibility as a leader to learn his team and who they are as individuals so it is not done to anyone.

I never received any negative feedback or direct ways to improve on my work.
