There is encouragement for training

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I feel so supported to both brainstorm new ideas and act on them. I also feel like I am provided with enough guidance to make sure that I am still pushing us in the direction that we would like to be headed. On a more personal note, I feel like I have gained many new skills since joining the team.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Working in a fast paced environment exposes you to a lot of new challenges that fosters growth.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I don't think that there are traditional ways to move up, as in getting promoted to the next level, but I do feel that I have growth opportunities that stretch me and allow me to learn.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

We are provided with a lot of opportunities to learn. Whether that is hearing from individuals on our team during a sharing session, an external Changemaker that we support and work with, or shared events/professional development opportunities that staff shares. We are given generous financial support and encouragement for professional development courses, joining nonprofit boards, volunteering, and team building. It seems that if you apply yourself in your role and bring value to the organization, there is recognition for your contributions and leaders are open to helping you apply your skills and experience in new ways within the organization.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I am still an early employee, but from my experience thus far, I believe there are lots of opportunities for growth at Notley as long as you express your interests.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I just started, but I feel like there is room to grow in my role based on conversations with my team and manager

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I have been given additional responsibilities and the opportunity to grow my skill sets.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Lots of autonomy, constant learning, areas to expand

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I was promoted in my first year at Notley and have several other colleagues who have been given opportunities to stretch, with support, and receive promotions as well.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

There are opportunities to specialize and create a job that works for your interests and expertise. I think the company could do better at communicating the potential growth trajectory of each position and then officially documenting when things do change.

By Public Reviewer, More than 1 year ago

Opportunities for growth require self-advocacy and initiative on the part of the employee.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I will be honest that I originally wasn't sure how genuine the for-profit/non-profit model could really be. Notley is the real deal.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I wish we were more intentional about what we want to support cause wise, but I do appreciate that we have a purpose beyond just making money by supporting organizations doing great work and changemakers doing great work.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

While we have a good brand and mission around supporting Changemakers, it does feel at times that our focus is more on investments and revenue generation. I understand that we need to have the investments and revenue generation to support our nonprofit programming and charitable contributions, but it can feel like our motivations tied to our goals are more related to the revenue growth than actually generating meaningful community impact. There has also been confusion about what we are all ultimately working towards. What do we believe? What calls us all to do the work we are doing? What inspires others to join in and participate?

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Impact is at the core of Notley's mission and can be seen in the various initiatives it has implemented over the years.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

For sure, but I do think our strong emphasis on sustainability and the pressures that puts upon everyone to bring in money often seems to come first and impact second. Ideally we want to do both at the same time, but I think figuring out what has the most impact and building from there should be our first priority

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Everything focuses on social impact

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

100% This is what I love the most about Notley. Even when our obvious purpose *is* making money, like through the various investment arms, we always reinvest that money in social impact through supporting existing non-profits or empowering employees to create their own. We are unleashing relentless changemakers :)

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Notley is very impact-driven and we celebrate those impact wins often.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Because of the nature of my role, I often have weeks where I can take much more on and others where I have to teeter back. My manager has been so understanding and continues to support me during both.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I am able to build my own schedule to best fit the needs of my role and executing my job most effectively, manage my time autonomously, and feel encouraged and supported to take time off from work as needed whether thats emergencies, vacations, or mental health days.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Yes, but I am also so busy that I find it hard to take time off.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

unlimited PTO. Huge

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Notley's flexible vacation policy means you get to take the time you need.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

We are encouraged to work in the office, but it is never a problem to take off whether it's for a full vacation or just a few hours or half day to deal with personal things like a doctor's appointment or kid stuff.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Great PTO policy

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I feel very comfortable taking PTO when needed since the policy is unlimited. However, there is an inflexible policy around being in the office when you are not taking PTO. A more hybrid model would better compare to similar companies and our post-pandemic world.

By Public Reviewer, More than 1 year ago

Unlimited PTO and encouragement from upper management to use it.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I feel like we are exposed to topics around inclusion in general, and I do feel it is a welcoming and inclusive place. I think we can dive deeper on inclusion learning.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Onboarding was a little odd when I first joined. The first day in the office, I wasn't greeted by anyone, it was quiet, and felt like everyone was quite siloed. However, the longer I've been with the organization the more included I've felt. I think there have been more efforts to ensure staff is bonding, learning together, and collaborating which make the environment more welcoming and inclusive. There is a diverse staff as well.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Absolutely!

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

very diverse and welcoming!

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

our HR does a great job with this, from onboarding to regular group discussions in more informal settings as well as team events

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

We have an incredibly diverse team and everyone is so friendly and kind. I had no trouble making friends as a new hire and now that I'm one of the "veterans" (around 2 years in) I try to connect with new hires and make sure they feel welcomed. The HR lead is also really mindful of making the company inclusive from the first thing a candidate sees all the way through regular events and casual chats about various topics.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

We have a really positive and hardworking team. I do feel that there is an effort to increase diversity and strengthen our internal community.

By Public Reviewer, More than 1 year ago

There is a diverse team but upper level management is primarily friends of the Founders.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

I have observed some slightly toxic behaviors when it comes to giving or receiving feedback where individuals have felt they were blamed, unaware of expectations, or not given opportunities make constructive adjustments to their work. It is not always actionable or empathetic. I think there could be better methods for seeking to understand, provide context, and provide clear actions and expectations for improvement or change. I also think more frequent check-ins with teams and staff that allow time for reflection, debriefing, and contributing solutions for actionable next steps towards individual or company progress would be helpful.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

If I ask for it I do. I think people are so busy that it is not a priority to manage employees in this way. Hoping the new annual review process will provide an opportunity for this as the 360 review wasn't as effective as a managerial review on specific duties.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Love the people I work with. Very collaborative

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

we don't have formal performance reviews and managers often struggle to provide examples when offering feedback. we have 1:1s where they're supposed to also be providing feedback but that seems lacking as well, could be improved through more effort on the part of the managers.

By Verified Current Employee, More than 1 year ago

Our HR team does a great job making sure we have regular performance reviews and receive feedback from our manager as well as people we work with as colleagues, which I've found to be the most useful feedback and haven't received at other companies I've worked for.

By Public Reviewer, More than 1 year ago
