About American Association of Nurse Practitioners
American Association of Nurse Practitioners Mission & Bio
In 1985, a small group of visionaries convened under an apple tree in Pennsylvania to address the growing need for NPs of all specialties to have a unified voice. They established AANP to fill that need and become The Voice of the Nurse Practitioner®. These perceptive leaders recognized that national action was essential to securing the relevance and durability of the NP role. Thanks to their foresight, AANP has flourished and now represents the interests of more than 325,000 NPs nationwide.
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) provides nurse practitioners (NPs) with a unified way to network and advocate for NP issues. AANP continually advocates at local, state and federal levels for the recognition of NPs as providers of high-quality, cost-effective and personalized health care.
